Wow, it's April already and sadly I don't have any new paintings to rave about. For the last month I have been busy putting together an online catalog and updating my report called "Everything You Need To Know About Oil Painting Reproductions". This is available as a free download, so if you are thinking of buying a reproduction, get yourself a copy of this report first! Go to: http://www.impressionist-art-gallery.com/impressionist_reproductions.html I received an email from Helen in the UK who runs a great site to help you with reproductions. There is a forum where you can ask questions and get help from experts with issues relating to oil painting reproductions. Go to: http://www.reproduction-oil-paintings.co.uk
Painting of the Month ![]() It's such a lovely painting and displays the essence of Impressionism beautifully. The quick brushstrokes capture the fleeting moment and reflect the light as only Monet knew how. If I was to sum up Impressionism with only one painting, I think this would be the masterpiece I'd choose. The full title of this painting is The Promenade, Woman with a Parasol. Its grace and elegance and euphoric mood make it one of the most characteristic Impressionist art works; and it is without doubt one of the most appealing female portraits in Monet’s entire auvre, undeniably a labour of love. The female in question is of course the delightful Camille, on this occasion accompanied by her young son Jean, now a sturdy boy. Whereas in other portraits of his wife Monet barely particularized her features, in this inspired picture he has tried to capture her fresh beauty and casual elegance. Even in his later portraits of the Hoschede daughters he did not surpass this striking tableau of youthful beauty. The impassioned, whiplash brushwork is quite remarkable: the figure stands out vivaciously against the cloudy sky. Curiously, Monet seems to have devoted a lot more time to filling in the detail of the grass at Camille’s feet. Presumably he finished that section in the studio, leaving untouched the figure he had completed from the motif. These were, sadly, the last of the fine days for Camille. She was soon to become pregnant for the second time, and was then taken gravely ill after giving birth to a second son, Michel. Perhaps it was an artist’s premonition that made Monet paint her over and over again, as though he wanted to create many images of her before the original disappeared forever. ***************************************** Never To Be Repeated Special World of Impressionism Subscribers Only Offer! ****************************************** Own a Copy of Woman With a Parasol for Only $99! Artists coming soon to the Impressionist Art Gallery include: Berth Morisot Georges Seurat James Whistler Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Mary Cassatt The "Painting of the Month" next month is one of the most famous paintings in the world. It's a very special part of history in art and it's special to our gallery because it is NOT Impressionism! In fact, it's causing quite a bit of controversy at the moment and probably always will. I can't wait to start writing about it, and as a subscriber, you'll receive a great offer and saving on it. What is it? It's a secret. Until next month...
